The Atlanta Chapter of the
Association of Graduates was born sometime in the early '80s. The
Constitution provided for a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and
Secretary in addition to three directors. Unlike other service academy
association chapters, the Atlanta Chapter of the AOG is a completely
independent, self-supporting organization. As a result, dues are in
addition to, and separate from, membership in the USAFA AOG.
During the early years of the
organization, regular newsletters were mailed to the Chapter membership.
The newsletters featured ski trips, golf outings, dinners, and other
activities. Attendance at Chapter activities ranged from six to
several hundred depending on the event.
In the early '90's, successive
transfers of Chapter leadership resulted in a loss of direction and a
general decline in the number of Chapter activities. In early 2002, the
USAFA AOG asked for volunteers to help reactivate the Atlanta Chapter. A
three-member volunteer cadre grew to about 12 culminating in a kickoff
meeting on October 5th, 2002 where new officers and a board were elected.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help plan future activities should
contact the Chapter Secretary, Mr. Bill Morgan.
